What I Wore Sunday, Volume 15

Happy Sunday!  I'm so content typing this from my desk at my own apartment--for the last two weekends, Andrew and I have been traveling all over our state teaching an NFP class and giving a talk to engaged couples.  We're scheduled for one next weekend, too--I love this work, but it really can get exhausting, particularly when your entire state is one diocese, meaning that the area it covers is huge.

I'm not saying this to martyr myself or appear falsely humble; I know we're blessed to get to do this ministry and I genuinely do enjoy sharing my passion for God's plan for sexuality.  Sometimes talks go really well, and other times, couples are unresponsive, and I have to remind myself that it's not about me.  I think Lent is such a suitable time for being mindful of emptying myself in the best way I can and allowing the Lord to work in me, while also knowing that it's only through grace that I can do that in the first place.

Here's what I wore for our talk last night and again for Mass today.  Visit Fine Linen and Purple for more style inspiration!

Hers: Top, Old Navy.  Jeans and earrings, Target.  Flats, Shoemint.  Nails, Fiesta by Essie.
His: Shirt, Target.  T-shirt, Ralph Lauren.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!  Tell me what you're up to!

P.S.  In addition to this one, I'll have another Lenten reflection on Ignitum Today tomorrow!

  1. Enjoy your relaxing Sunday! What an awesome job you two are doing. You look beautiful. Love those earrings!

  2. Second Katrina's comment above - it's beautiful work that you two are doing. Also, just because couples are unresponsive, you never know how the Holy Spirit is affecting them interiorly. All you can do is present your message with love and the help of God's grace, as you said, and let the Holy Spirit do the rest!

    1. Absolutely. It's something I've learned more and more as a speaker in the last few years!

    1. P.S. Cool photography! I always avoid having the camera facing the sun, but it really works here.

    2. Thank you so much, Laura! I love the sun in the early evening, and I have to confess that one week, I put my Sunday outfit on on Saturday night just so the lighting would be better!

  4. SUPER cute outfit! I love it! That's so wonderful that you and Andrew teach an NFP class. I wish my husband and I had been able to take one (we were living in Germany for the first few years of our marriage on a military base, and it was never offered so I just did the reading myself).

    1. Thank you! I've had friends who taught themselves too, and I give you guys major props--I don't think we could've done it without teachers to ask a thousand questions to!

  7. Those earrings are adorable! My hubby and I presented at marriage preps for years . . . it can be hard when teh group is unresponsive. Know that you are doing such a good and necessary ministry and you are making a difference!

    1. Thank you! That's awesome that you were involved in marriage prep, too--it's something I always thought I wanted to do, and I'm so glad to have the opportunity now.

  8. Super cute! Those earrings are great.

And I'm so glad you're doing what you're doing. Our first pre-Cana retreat was so bad (no NFP talk at ALL!) that we went to one in a different diocese! You never know who you're reaching, and it's such an important topic for couples.

    1. Thanks so much, Rosie! I agree--NFP can be glossed over sometimes, or not presented well, and I hope couples can get excited about the benefits and beauty of the Church's guidance. That's not to say that we have it down perfectly, because we certainly don't, but I like to think the Holy Spirit works harder than we do =)

  10. Look at you! Those earrings look awesome, as does the entire outfit. You know, Stephanie, never underestimate the power you have on those unresponsive couples. I was once there and it took nearly a decade for me to embrace that teaching of the church. Keep sharing your heart, you never know when you might change someone else's.

    1. Thanks so much for your encouragement, Kathryn! I guess I didn't say in this post that our talk on Saturday actually went remarkably well, possibly better than it ever has. Such a gift, and not because of me!

  18. Ooh, love those earrings! I hear you about unresponsive couples. Mark and I did a "Good News about Sex and Marriage" workshop to seasoned couples.. some married for almost 20 years and we got a good humbling from one couple on how we were "too young" and how they didn't get anything out of it b/c they already "knew everything". That was hard for me to take that in front of everyone (it also could have been my pregnancy hormones at the time too). I still don't know why God called us to serve that workshop to those couples at that parish, but God calls us to be faithful and not successful right? I'm sure we will all see the fruits of our labor one day, whether it be in this life or the next! :-)

    1. Ohhh, my gosh, that must've been so hard! You're so right that it's much more about doing God's will on the whole than doing it in a way that seems good or successful by your own measures. Thanks for that!

  19. It's wonderful that you promote NFP. My husband and I are driving over 2 hours (one way) to teach some engaged couples next month. I get nervous because I feel my husband and I are "too old". We are in our late 50's. Prayers for our class series would be appreciated!

    1. I'll definitely be praying for you two and for your class! And you know, my husband and I were trained to be teachers by the chattiest, most spirited, up-to-date couple in their 70s who have 7 children! Age is nothin' =)

    2. Thanks for saying that!

  20. The seaming down your top is such an interesting detail, and the blue looks great with your nails. : )

As for your ministry, I can't say much beyond what others have said. Just keep on keepin' on!
